About Photo in a Photo?

You have probably seen or taken a photo that contains another photo. It could be from a phone camera or tablet. Or you could have printed out and then retaken the picture. A bandstand superimposed with an older picture. You get the angle just right and the pictures blend in a fascinating way.

I first noticed the effect and how it could be used many years ago. I took a photo of a photo of the backyard of a house I was living in, in the early 2000s. My brother had put it on the wall of his art studio. It created a contrast to the paint flecked walls.

The idea has stayed with me. What if you didn't just take one photo of another photo? How far could you push it using images? Obviously photos would lose sharpness as you rephotographed and rephotographed. But what type of images could you create?
